Wonderful disc. I have cups and some other discs and this is the best one I have. Love it. Totally recommend.
Josiane G.
First time using a disc and loving it! I had tried cups before but my first couple of days are very heavy and the Saalt cup would leak after two hours, and the larger Venus cup wasn’t much better. I wanted to try a disc and chose the Lumma because of the string. I was afraid of the changing process being even more messy but I was surprised to find it wasn’t at all! Actually easier than the cups. Even though it’s a much bigger object, it’s a lot easier to insert. It’s very squishy and you don’t have to worry about suction or popping it open. I went 8 hours on my heaviest day, and the emptying was easier than a cup! No suction makes it very comfortable to pull it out. A little tug on the string and put it comes. I pull it just enough to grab the edge and then carefully hold it up so it doesn’t splash everywhere. I take a big Solo cup with me in the bathroom and dip the disc in it to rinse it out.
And the auto-dump is magic! You can hear a weird squishing sound when you strain and out it comes a little stream. Then it’s just a quick check with a finger to make sure it’s still tucked behind the pelvic bone, which is very obvious and easy to find - no need to go digging deep into your guts to find your cervix. M
One con is that you can definitely feel the string. I got used to it quickly, but I could just cut it shorter. I decided to insert it just a tad off center so the string is slightly to the side, and that helps a lot.
I’m never going back to a cup and absolutely love the Lumma!

After three cycles, I am getting better aquainted with the disc and really like it. I have been super impressed...when it's in right, it's amazing. I can do hard core yoga with lots of ab work, all sorts of contortions, and it's a champ (unlike my Diva cup...it was a mess...). No issues there. I also got the Nixit, but I just haven't gotten it to work right yet. I have Lumma M, which has been a good fit. It does take some getting used to and I still have a couple issues with it coming out of place, but it is probably my placement/cervix level on different days of my cycle. Every cycle I feel more confident about it.

I love the Lumma Disc. I have the large disc since my cervix is really high and I really don't have many complaints. I always have a little bit of leaking when I use it but I always wear period underwear as well so it's not a big deal for me. I have heavy periods and it honestly makes it so much easier for me. It is true that they are messier than cups but I don't mind since I find cups personally uncomfortable. Highly recommend.
Sydney M.
First time trying out a disk... I've been using cups for 5+ years. Didn't like the feeling of the pull string but easy enough to cut off if it doesn't work for you. Nice break from the suction of a cup but for me I found I like having that nice secure seal when I'm out and about(just not sure how trusting I am of it staying tucked behind my pubic bone).Overall comfortable, ring is firm/keeps it's shape, pretty colors and no staining yet.
Kim K.
This is disc is my "goldilocks" product. I have a really low cervix, but a heavy flow so the medium works best for me. I did purchase a small as well and use that on lighter days. This is actually my 2nd time purchasing the medium because I lost it :( and definitely cannot go without it. I started my reusable product journey in 2018 and haven't looked back!
Robyn K.
Do not recommend this product. I don’t think the materials used to make this product are what they claim, as I had a weird reaction to it. I have used other cups and discs but never experienced something like this.
Brooke G.
I was recommended the Lumma High after taking the Period Nirvana Quiz. I have a very high cervix and the stem was a huge selling point to me. I tried a disposable disc previously and panicked because I couldn’t really reach it after wearing.
I’m on my first cycle with the Lumma - insertion is a breeze, taking it out is also a breeze. However, I am having significant troubles not getting it to leak. I am inserting in the “scooping” method to ensure it’s around my cervix, and also tucking up high behind my pubic bone. But for some reason every time I take it out there is blood inside and outside of it and it has leaked slightly. I’m going to keep trying this cycle, but might opt for another disc to try next cycle.
Rosie S.
Period nirvana is a great site and the Lumma disc is easy to use I love having the pull string attached to be able to help with taking it out
Shyann M.
I LOVE IT!!
I got the disposable flex discs and I loved them and took the test and was recommended the Lumma. Which I loved as I had some difficulty taking the discs out as I have a high cervix.
My only issue is the string. I cut it as it was hanging out a bit and it was uncomfortable.
But then it made it short enough to poke and prod. I ended up just cutting it off.
So as much as I loved the string I also didn't. But it did help me become comfortable in my body and helped guide me to be able to take it out without the string.
If your nervous about being able to take it out and want a little help. 100% recommend.
I over all wore on my heaviest day 12 hours and only towards the 12 hour mark did I end up leaking. AND I was working all day! I walk a lot and I only get a few moments to sit and only on my car ride home did it start to leak. And trust me I pushed it to the MAX.
Yuri
Worse than free bleeding. Discs will probably work wonders if you have the right anatomy (and buying one is the only way to find out if you do) but I got this in hopes it would leak less than the cups I tried. No dice. It shifts out of place so not only is it dumping its entire contents through my pants but also pinching, and I followed instructions for sizing and insertion so it’s just an anatomy issue
Ana V.
The disc is really comfortable! Inserting is a little tricky (but easier than a cup) and I haven’t figured out how to remove it without spilling the contents everywhere. Hoping it just takes a little practice
Eva S.
I enjoyed the disk and think that a disk or cup is a good swap to make, I never really liked tampons and I think that this is a very good alternative and I enjoyed using it and the routine more than a standard pad or tampon. The disk didn't put pressure and while there is a learning curve it felt somewhat hard to mess up.
Erin M.
I was referred to Period Nirvana by a very trusted friend who has very heavy periods like I do, and she was convinced that a Period Nirvana disc would hold a lot more than the Diva cup I've been using for years. I have to change the Diva cup every couple of hours on heavy days, and I was looking for something that get me through the night while sleeping. So I took the Period Shop quiz and bought the Lumma Disc (high). I've tried it for three full cycles now, I'm sorry to say I'm still having substantial leakage. I've followed all the insertion tips (making sure it's tucked behind the pubic bone, etc), and it's still leaking a lot, and I'm having to empty it every couple of hours because of the leakage and needing to replace my heavy pad all the time. I contacted customer service to see if I could exchange it for a different size/style or get a refund, and neither option was available. I would have to blindly buy another one without knowing if it would work any better. I'm disappointed by the customer service. I didn't have $40 to throw away right now. I'm an artist, low-income, and I would not recommend this company if you don't have extra money to throw away.
Brittany G.
I love my disc I was I was a little concerned but watching videos on how to use it was great an easy to clean I don’t have to buy no more tampons or pads
Natalie S.
Honestly this has been revolutionary for my period. I had tried the SoftDisc disposable discs before to see if I liked discs, but had a horrible time. They kept slipping out and not actually catching anything, so I thought discs just weren’t for me. Then I saw a PeriodNirvana video on Youtube about cervix height and it changed my life. I have a short cervix and so the SoftDisc discs were too long to fit comfortably. I took the quiz on PeriodNirvana and found the Lumma Disc in short. After trimming down the tail, it fit like a dream.
I can wear it through zumba and pilates classes, sitting at my desk at work, or just laying around the house and don’t feel it at all! It’s the absolute best.
LaTashia B.
Lumma disc is my Goldilocks! I’m so happy! Thanks to the period nirvana quiz. Out of the Hello, Ziggy b, reusable Flex disc. Lumma fits better, firmer but not the firmest, easy insert and removal. Perfect, NO pressure on the bladder, less messy period! I can actually sit on the toilet; pull the string without having to dig and slowly tug at the string to auto-dump and once I feel that most of the content has emptied in the toilet, the rest is easy and mess free; two fingers is all you need, no blood trickling down into your hands or sliding down your fingers into hands. It’s WONDERFUL! The ONLY dislike about this product is the plastic like silicon feel of the disc at the bottom. Once inserted I feel like it doesn’t go back to the oval form inside where the blood is being collected (not the rim that helps shield the blood from leaking from behind/around the tailbone). Whereas, the other discs have a latex bottom feel, more durable and forms there shape back while inside due to the blood collecting. I do wish they made a higher capacity! This will be my forever disc. Thank you Kim!
Olivia W.
I took the quiz and got the high size according to my cervix dept. No matter how I inserted it would reach the end and still stick out, nor was there space to push up enough. Very frustrating.
Emily G.
I have quite a few discs from Period Nirvana, I love LUMMA have for a couple years. I have the MEDIUM unicorn and it works well, still feel the stem a tiny bit but not really.
Rachel H.
Amazing! I initially used the wrong sized cup and had many troubles, but then I correctly measured my cervix and this was a perfect fit. I love the tips and tricks I have gotten from TikTok, and has made the learning curve easier.
Olivia C.
Lumma M is a better fit than Hello Disc for me (low- avg cervix, medium flow). Hello was too big, though I love the material quality, color, and tab loops much more on Hello. The Lumma M rim is a bit easier to fold than Hello. The basin on Lumma M is much deeper than Hello. For me, the extra depth doesn’t really help… just gets scrunched up after insertion. I can get through a cycle with Lumma M okay, though on heavy days I have to be really vigilant about auto dumping every couple hours to avoid leaks. I’m trying Saalt Disc Small next. Even though this Lumma M still isn’t quite perfect for me leak-wise, it’s comfortable and is soooo much better than pads + tampons (especially on my lighter days when I can leave it the full 12 hours without worry!)
Ashley S.
The first day was a trouble shooting day , but after that I had no problems at all! Super easy ! Super comfortable!! I’m in absolute love with my disc !! I got the high cervix unicorn disk
Skylar W.
I can't wear standard menstrual cups, but have used disposable discs for a couple years. Post partum, my period has a super heavy flow. I'm having a hard time keeping up. Unfortunately- this disc fills and over flows quickly.
It's great on my light days- but I will have to keep searching for a solution for the crime scene in my pants 4 out of 7 days.
Lakota G.
I've been trying to find something more sustainable and comfy for my period for a few years now. Tried period undies, cloth pads, menstrual cups and discs... they worked to a certain degree but never ticked all the boxes. I've tried softcups and after a few cycles it became clear they just were too big. It kept popping out of place when I'd sit and I had some serious leaks. I was so worried when I bought a smaller disc that it would be another fail.... boy was I wrong and thank goodness!! No leaks or weird~ smells, couldn't feel it and the colors are so bright and fun!! Something to brighten an otherwise crappy day. Have been recommending to everyone I know :)
Amelia W.
I have never used tampons or cups but I was able to use the disc leak-free by the second day! it's unnoticeable once it's in, much easier to clean than period underwear, almost feels like I'm not on my period. the string makes removing it easier, I put it in with the string on the side so it isn't as long and it's perfect like that. I truly want to recommend this disc to everyone. there's no reason not to try it!
Annie K.
This was my first time using a period disc (I’ve used a mooncup for the past 6 years) and it was definitely positive! I got the high cervix style which made removal very easy. No leaks at all & I have very heavy periods! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the material is very thin & I felt this made insertion a little trickier. I unfortunately lost my Lumma and I think I will be trying a thicker one next time, but I would definitely still recommend this one!
Mackenzie S.
I started with the softdisc and did two months with those before taking the plunge and purchasing my lumma. It’s perfect for me. Not too firm or soft. I use a flexx cup if that gives anyone an idea of the firmness I prefer.
Melanie H.
I absolutely love the Lumma disc!!! I was a little nervous as a first time disc user, but it went really well! There were no leaks throughout my entire period (and I have a very heavy flow so this was my biggest fear). Insertion was easier than expected. And taking it out was a breeze with the "string" that was attached to the disc. I found that part very helpful since I have a high cervix. I also have a tilted cervix so I wasn't sure if the disc would fit properly, but it did! The auto-dumping was a pleasant surprise for me. I didn't even have to push it back into place. It kind of just clicked back into place. Overall 10/10 I would definitely recommend this disc to everyone!

I bought the Cora cup first. It seemed like it would be great for someone who was just beginning to look into cups and discs. However, it made me super nervous and fearful of not being able to retrieve it. So I took the Period Nirvana quiz and the Lumma was suggested. I went with the large to be on tge sade side. This is life changing! Still getting the hang of it, but I found the Lumma much easier to insert than the Cora (I even tried love too help, but it was still difficult). Definitely a practice makes perfect situation. I plan on investing in some period underwear from extra protection and the it will be goodbye to pads and tampons. I feel so liberated!
Riley M.
My last cup pulled out my IUD. I decided to try a disc. I tried Ziggy and it did NOT go well. My vagina is NOT large enough for it. I ordered this and it fits perfectly! It can make my cramps a little bit worse, but it’s not a big deal. I absolutely LOVE the Lumma.
Christine H.
I have a low cervix, am petite - I bought a small size cup and it still tore me when inserting/removing. Traumatized me a bit. I think it has to do with how stiff it is. Upon seeing how discs are inserted and how small they get, as well as how flexible they looked in videos, decided to retry because the overall feeling of use with the cup couldn't be beat. Not having to sit on a soaked pad, or worry about getting TSS from an uncomfortable dry tampon, is the best feeling you've never known. Yes the learning curve was bigger than the cup, and took me about a full day of disc + pad to really figure out how to stop leaking, but after that, no problems. IMO it is a level comfier than a cup. Biggest downside is removal being messy, but with 12 hour use time, I can be sure I'm removing it at home so there's no issue. I also do feel it shift around more than the cup ever did, the cup using suction pressure meant no leaks. I've had a couple of drops of blood leaking here and there but a pantiliner catches it all. Might go a size up if I get another one.
Kinsey W.
This is my first time using a disc and I like it a lot more than the cup. It definitely fits better!
My only issue is that sometimes when I go to the bathroom, the disc moves position and the seal breaks. So then I have to take it out, wash it and put back in. Not a big deal when I’m at home, but could be annoying if I’m in a public bathroom with stalls and have to fully get dressed in order to wash it off, then go back into the stall to insert it again.
Not sure if I’m doing something wrong??
Thea T.
Really liked this disc. Extremely comfortable and easy to use. I bought the high cervix size and it works great. I did cut the "string" - it just wasn't for me. Definitely would recommend Lumma.
Danielle C.
I am a long time cup user. This is the first disc I tried. I got the medium because I have a low cervix. I’ve used it for two cycles, and it doesn’t seem to sit exactly right and leaks.
Lena K.
Cups were such a bad fit for me, but I really wanted a reusable period option that wasn't pads or period panties. I tried Flex Disk and loved it, and decided to get Lumma High because they're supposed to be similar. I've been using it for one cycle so far and I love it! I don't feel it at all and it doesn't leak, which was the opposite experience that I had with multiple cups
Meagan D.
Was suggested this disc by your quiz. Loved the fit and feel of this cup. No leaks and comfortable all day. I had only tried single use disc's before this and hated them as I had trouble getting them to fit right and stay. Only con is that after a few uses, it feels like the cup may be disintegrating. The feeling of the outside has changed, and I am a bit afraid to keep using it.
Rena S.
It was my first time using a menstrual disc. I love almost everything about the Lumma High. It went in like a breeze and removed just as well. I had little to no leaking. My only problem with it isn't really with it specifically I suppose. It auto-dumped on me when I wasn't over the toilet. Luckily I was at home so it wasn't a huge deal. So I guess my one problem is with discs in general. But, that won't stop me from using it on lighter days as it was fantastic otherwise!
Emily H.
I have used a disposable disc before and it seemed to work well so I went for a reusable disc. Maybe I got the wrong size despite my quiz results or I’m using it wrong but just like my issues with cups if I move wrong it shifts and dumps out all at once. I can wear it comfortably and forget it’s there until it all dumps out. I never have to unhook it from the pubic bone to remove, it’s always shifted out of place. I have had 6 vaginal births, am 46 years old and have extremely heavy flow. I used cups without too much trouble until my last birth at 42 and since I couldn’t get a good seal anymore was hoping that a disc would be the ticket. Now I’m thinking I’ll have to go back to tampons, I just can’t keep bleeding through my clothes every two hours.
Brianna B.
I've been using a cup for a couple of years now. I didn't even know discs existed before I found the Period Nirvana TikTok! I also had no idea that cups could pull my IUD! I'm so glad I switched. This Lumma disc is so comfortable and I don't have leaks like I usually did with the cup!
Jennifer B.
I took the quiz on this site after having given up on cups in the past and discovered the discs and the new product lines that emerged recently. I found the quiz extremely helpful and I was surprised that it recommended the lumma small, so I ordered small and medium. I'm extremely pleased, they both work, they're great colors, decent products. I realized I actually like the slick surface because I think this would work better for sex and a velvety silicon might not feel as 'natural' as the slick. After watching the youtubes on these products I realized why the small has the same capacity as the medium so I ordered two more smalls. I am not sorry that I also have one medium in case I get tired of the placement of the rim, sometimes a change can be nice. I liked cups but they always slid down a half inch too low for me and I experienced many leaks. I find the disc MUCH easier to use. The string is acceptable although I prefer to cut mine off. I was able to workout and walk dogs and go on shopping trips without a second thought to this product, and I tried my best but I simply cannot do that with a cup. This also reduces cramping, is a comfortable product, and it's messy to remove but if I'm caught in a public restroom it's not hard to empty with only a partial removal, even if I don't experience the auto dump. Thank you for the quiz and the great information! I would've not guessed the right product. I may try a product in the future with a softer rim, but I find the lumma to be much softer and more tolerable than the disosables were and I can barely feel this product. This is the first time I was able to trust a reusable product without mind to it. I highly recommend this for anyone who may struggle with cups.
Colleen D.
I got my last disc stuck inside me and even my doctor had trouble taking it out! She said that that disc (that was supposed to be a one size fits all) was way too big for me! I'm grateful LUMMA has sizes, because the low cervix option fits me perfectly! Now I can wear it happily, and I'm so glad to have a comfortable, internal, reusable period product!!
Kristal G.
This disc may work great for some but doesn’t work well for me. I much prefer the Cora. For one thing, the “string,” although it does make it a lot easier to remove, drives me crazy. I could just cut it off, but I chose this disc because it has a “string” for easier removal. For another thing, in theory it should be able to hold quite a lot of blood, but in practice, because of the specific kind of material it’s made of, the cup part collapses inside of me. It’s started to leak on me when it wasn’t even close to being full. So far, I haven’t had any issues with my Cora leaking, even with my heavy flow. The only thing I like about this disc is the color. But I prefer my boring gray Cora over this pretty rainbow (Unicorn) Lumma.
Jessica S.
I had never heard about the menstrual disc, only the cup. I have been trying the cup on and off for 1.5 years with no luck! It only worked a quarter of the time as I struggled immensely to get it in the correct place. I also dealt with unexplained leakage almost every time. I was feeling discouraged that a reusable menstrual product would never work for my anatomy. I first heard about the disc months ago but the way people talk about it, it’s this daunting device that will only work for experienced cup users or people who have had babies. I am neither of those people so I thought the disc was out of reach for my expertise. I eventually came across a period nirvana video about the disc and how it was explained did not seem so daunting at all! I was really drawn to the disc because the insertion method is completely different than the menstrual cup and I struggled so hard for so long with that. I decided to give the Lumma disc a try because it has the string so it seemed like the best transition disc from a cup since the string could help with removal. Well I gave it a try and omg it was soooooo easy to insert! Shockingly easy! It just slid right in and then I pushed up behind my pubic bone and that’s all! The first time I used the lumma disc was on my heaviest days (my menstraul cup wouldn’t work on those days cause it couldnt suction) and it auto dumped when I used the restroom. I would leak if I didn’t tilt it up after the restroom. How ever on my lighter day, I don’t need to move it back into place when it auto dumps. I also rock climb and I was a nervous about it slipping out of place and leaking in the middle of a climb but I had no problems!! Removal was not difficult for the Lumma disc. The string is there and helped guide my fingers to remove it. The string is a tad long so I need to trim it once I get more comfortable with removal. For now I just tuck it upward so it stays in my vagina or else I feel it when I walk around. Overall, I think I have finally reached period nirvana after over a year of trying cup after cup!! I wish I would have tried the disc sooner but it had seemed like taboo. For whatever reason it works way better for my anatomy. Don’t be afraid, give it a try!
Selena M.
I love this disc. I'd been a cup user for a long time but they've always caused a bit of bladder pressure, so when I found out discs usually don't, I decided to give one a try. I tried the nixit and it..wouldn't stay in. I have a medium cervix height, not low but right on the verge of low, so I went for this one because it was a bit smaller. Happy to say it fits like a charm AND no more bladder pressure! Love
Serena M.
This might sound silly, but I am almost 50 years old, and I feel clumsy using it. Taking it out is messy. But I like the idea of it I cannot use tampons and pads suck even though I use them. The disk was very comfortable to wear. This would be wonderful if I could just get it right!
Ali G.
Pre-kids I knew cups existed but never tried. Post kids my period was heavier and I was over wasting tampons and panty liners. I tried several cups and even a disc, both were AWFUL. My cervix is quite low post kids and neither fit properly which meant pain and leaking and a more awful period experience. I gave up on alternative reusables for a while. Then fed up again, I found the quiz on Period Nirvana, did it and ordered what it pointed me to. I was completely skeptical but WOW, this disc actually fits and is SO dang comfortable. It didn't take me long to get the hang of insertion and emptying. I'm on period #2 with it and can't imagine going back to anything else. I have done hard workouts and experienced no leaks or movement. (I did with the cup and unfortunately had the cup suction to my cervix which was painful). I may give it a try at some point, but since this disc works for me - not sweating it. A thank you to the owners of period nirvana for creating such a quiz and really helping everyone find the perfect product. Vaginas are so far from one-size fits all, and more women need to know that.

I have a very low cervix and previously used a MeLuna Small Shorty. But even that small cup would sometimes be too long and would not last more than 4-5 hours of wear. I decided to try a disc and went with the Lumma low cervix. And I love it! I did have to cut the string completely off because I didn’t like it. But I even wore it all night and had very minimal leaking!

The cup started disintegrating and getting chalking after I boiled it for the first time. Not very impressed. Otherwise though do like the product, just concerning that it is disintegrating.

I absolutely love the lumma disc. I wanted a reusable disc to replace my flex disc and it works great. The lumma high is about the same size but the rim is soft so insertion feels a bit different but I got the hang of it quickly. I like having the "string". It has made removal easier and less messy.
Kyla
This product is amazing ! This is my first experience with a reusable menstrual product. I’ve been solely using pads since I started my period. This is truly a life changing product. So easy to use once you get the hang of it and the 12 hour wear time makes it so convenient.
Lilian B.
I got the High Cervix, and I have to admit that is freaking perfect. I do see a lot of complaints that the rim is very firm and I double that, but it seems that in my case I do have like a strong pelvic floor so I don't feel it at all. My vagina squishes the sh*t out of the disc. It is REALLY EASY to insert tho, like you really have to know where your cervix is and it will be very easy to put it under it. I did thought that the squishy part that collects the blood was not so squishy haha but I'm impressed! It is super soft and squishy. I'm aware that this material will stain quickly but I appreciate how clear and shiny it is. Also, it does stay in its place and for me doesn't autodump, it sticks hard to my pubic bone. The string is a great GREAT help. I have the highest of cervixes and it gets unreachable and annoying how I cannot reach my cup and is such a great help. I do have to say that once it is tuck to your pubic bone, no leaks!
Catherine N.
I am 18 and have been using pads ever since I had a period. Once I saw how wasteful each period I have was, I went look for other options. I came across Kim from Period Nirvana, and I am so glad I did! I never knew there were so many options! I decided on the Lumma Short and Medium (Medium is pictured because short is currently in use lol) since I have a long and heavy period and an average to low cervix.
I did a "dry run" to see it it would get in since I never even put a tampon up there. It went in a lot easier than I thought! I am so glad I have a product that will make my periods less wasteful and more enjoyable!

The Lumma is my unicorn for sure! I didn't think I would like the string of the Lumma, so it was NOT my first choice.
I tried the Ziggy first, but it didn't stay in place and came out too easily. Then I tried Cora; I thought it was the one b/c it worked great but I couldn't get it out. I knew my cervix was high and I have a very tilted uterus, but what I didn't realize was, when I'm heaviest on my period it goes even higher! I could feel the bottom Cora but I just couldn't get to the rim no matter what position I tried. After 30 minutes, I finally got it out. I immediately ordered the Lumma in both Med and High. Both work pretty well for me but I do get a very slight leak from the high (which kind of surprised me) and medium fits me better. When my period first starts, the string and both balls on the string stick out and I thought for a second to cut them off but remember the problem I had previously, so I left them. The next day, a very heavy day for me, the string no longer stuck out of me at all and I was so thankful that I hadn't cut it off b/c I needed it and needed all of it. Lumma is the disc for me for sure!

Review: Lumma Large
Cervix Height: High
Usual Cup: Lily Cup, Size A
Pros
-No mess, no leaks
-No issues with going number 2
-Period sex was great, dare I say, better?
(Partner: Did feel something was there, couldn't go in all the way, but was not an issue)
Cons
-Hard to reach, even with string and bearing down
Details:
I love my Lily cup, but I have pooped it out before. So, this disc has solved that issue. I tried the Lumma medium and Lumma large. This is what I experienced when bearing down:
Lumma Medium - didn't budge, hard to reach
Lumma Large - would move forward, closer to my pubic bone
With that said, the Lumma Large is still hard for me to reach, even with pulling on the string and bearing down. It definitely does not pop out from behind my pubic bone when I bear down, which leads me to think that I may have a larger vaginal fornix than average. Since it feels like I have about a half of an inch between the disc and pubic bone, I may try the Ziggy to see which one I like better.
Regardless, I am grateful for all the information that I found here. I would definitely recommend starting with the Lumma, since it will give you a better idea as to whether you will need to go up or go down in terms of disc diameter.

I’ve used a few cups and one disposable disc prior to purchasing the Lumma Disc and wow. This was absolutely the easiest to insert/remove/clean. The directions were super clear, angle it back/upwards and hook it under your pelvic bone. Removal is a breeze because of the string, I can’t recommend it enough!

Well damn. I wish I had discovered menstrual discs earlier. Between having a low cervix and a pretty strong pelvic floor, I had a hell of a time finding a cup that felt right. I loved my MeLuna shorty sport, but it would still be a little uncomfortable sometimes, and had a very small capacity. I just tried the Lumma disc, and it's absolutely my new favorite. Way less breakthrough, way more comfortable, and way easier to insert and remove with no mess! I can't wait to try other brands.

I bought 3 reusable period disks to try out. I’m a long time Instead fan, and use a period cup from time to time.
Two issues I had with this particular product. First is completely my fault. I didn’t know I have a low cervix, and I ordered a high cervix one (definitely look up how to measure it using your index finger). It definitely didn’t fit. Felt like so much material wadded up there.
The second is that this was a much thicker, less flexible material than my Instead disks. I didn’t like the feeling of the pull piece sticking out of me, either.
Not my cup of tea! :)

Loved it once I cut off the “string”. It was super annoying long, so I trimmed it. Then I felt it stabbing me so I went for it and cut it off completely. I also use the Cora disc and removal is pretty much the same.

I'm a long time cup user but decided to make the switch to a disc when I had a copper IUD inserted. The first cycle afterwards was nerve-wracking, between a much heavier flow and a new-to-me period product, but the entire cycle was leak free thanks to my Lumma large. It was my result on the quiz and I'm so thankful I took the chance. It easily slid into place and the string is incredibly helpful for removal. I usually trim the stems on my cups because they can cause some sensitivity but this one was so thin that it didn't cause any irritation at all. I've tried a few other discs now but I keep returning to the Lumma when I need guaranteed protection. It always goes exactly where it needs to be without any fuss. I'm glad this was my first disc, and it remains my favorite.

The string made this much easier to grab to take out. I loved it overall but think the rim may be too firm for me. It seemed to cause some worsening of my cramps when in place but I couldn't really feel it otherwise. Would definitely recommend especially for first time disc users like myself! I loved the freedom to wear whatever underwear I wanted and there was no leakage! I'm going to give this a few more months but may end up trying the Nixit too since it has a softer rim.

I am AMAZED!!!!! Never in my life did I think I could go to sleep and just wear cotton panties while on my heaviest day of my period.... Umm WHATTTT? Yes you read that right... Just cotton panties on my HEAVIEST DAY!!! I am a double protection (SUPER ULTRA tampon plus an overnight pad) kind of bleeder and I tried out the Lumma High disc because that was my result from the quiz. I used a disposable disc like 10 years ago but had no clue about auto-dumping and just thought it kept leaking so I stopped using it and haven't tried anything else until now. I AM A FIRM BELIEVER that all people can achieve PERIOD NIRVANA. The Lumma disc was so easy - no issues with use, comfortable (can't even tell it's there), and auto-dumps with no leaks every time. Thank you Kim and Team for all the work you put in to period positivity and teaching. I have already wrangled in several people to try these products and even purchased gift cards to give to people. I think somehow, with luck and the help of Period Nirvana, I have found my goldilocks period solution.

I'm a big fan of the lumma disc. I've already been using cups for maybe 6 months and they're sooooooo convenient and a green choice. Sometimes I have a hard time getting the cup all the way past my cervix, but at those times I'll just switch to a cup. Very comfortable and the little silicone string makes it easy to remove.

My Lumma disc arrived the day my cycle started. I am a first time disc user and have never used a cup; I’ve been using tampons for two decades. I bought the disc because I liked the “auto dump feature” and because of this, the potential for less removal during the day. I AM SO GLAD I BOUGHT IT! First off- mess free sex has been amazing. No more gross tampon smell from dried blood. And yes, the auto dump ability is amazing. I have been able to go all day during my workday without having to remove the disc. I simply sit on the toilet, use the restroom like normal, and in doing so my pelvic muscles tilt the disc enough to dump it. The “string” feature on the Lumma disc is extremely helpful, especially since I have a high cervix. It’s also easy to remove and clean in the shower, and reinsert. This is also a huge perk. My husband is also a major disc fan at this point haha. And I definitely recommend taking the Nirvana quiz and checking out the articles on the website prior to purchasing a disc or cup. Thank you Kim for your in depth reviews and knowledge- I’m not sure I would have made the plunge if not for your site! Lumma is awesome! Period Nirvana is even better ❤️

Awesome! I was able to find the right cup from the comparison chart on Period Nirvana; even though it was not available on period.shop
I wanted to support this small business because of how much they helped me find the perfect cup, so I decided to try a disc. BEST DECISION EVER!!!!
Natalie A.
This Lumma disc was my first ever reusable menstrual product and I love it! I have a high cervix so the “string” makes it easy for me to remove. Fits tucked up there perfectly and I’ve had zero leaks or discomfort. So happy!!

Period Nirvana!
I have never used a reusable disc, but it was so easy!!
Auto dumping was a nice feature, and I love the “string” to help guide the disc down. I may trim the string in the future, but definitely useful for now.
And yes….I tried it out with sex. Literally couldn’t even tell it was there, neither could my partner. It was totally mess free period sex, which I loved.

First day seemed great but after that it just never stayed in it kept falling. I have two kids so things just don't work like they used to. Sad it didn't work for me.

Super easy to use and so comfortable!

Not for me.

This is a life saver, I was skeptical at first but it works really well. I absolutely love it. I am so glad I bought this product.

I have tried couple of disposable disks and also some cups. I have experienced both Pros and Cons well, and decided to give a try to reusable disk this time. I liked the size options and capacity of this brand. I have shorter canal/lower cervical, and typical disposable wasn't quite sit right. Lumma S felt more comfortable, and felt sits exact place. So well, the string was lifesaver. I did feel the string bothersome, but I'll give more time to decide to cut shorter or off. The material felt somewhat less flexible, but that's because I'm comparing with disposable which is really thin like ziploc bag. As far as placing and removing, I will need more practice. Overall, good buy!

This was the second disc I bought because the first disc I bought was great, but I wasn’t loving the ‘auto-dumping’ feature. After learning from Period Nirvana that it could be caused by the disc being too large, I decided to look into other disc options. When I took the quiz, I got the Lumma High or Nixit, which I already knew would be too large. Using the chart, I decided the size medium should work and am so glad I made that choice. I think Lumma would be great for a first time disc user because the string really helps with removal. Even though I have an average to low cervix, I still have a hard time getting it out without the string (I also am terrible at getting discs out). This is honestly my new favorite reusable and I love the colors. The rim is much stiffer than the other disc I have used but that really helps with inserting. Highly recommend!!
Ashley
I've been a cup user for years, but thanks to this disc I am completely converted to discs! This was the first disc I tried, but since I have a high cervix I knew it would be a good choice because of the stem. I cannot sing Lumma's praises enough!
(I have both the middle and large sizes since I have a heavy flow with a high cervix, but I actually prefer the middle one.)
Katina B.
This is the second menstrual disc that I have tried. My first was the Nixit, which I love, but I wanted to also try the Lumma disc since it came with the "string" and accommodated for different cervix heights.
When it comes to the cervix height, a disc is a disc in my opinion. I didn't note a significant difference between the Nixit and the Lumma.
I also opted for the maximum capacity disc since my flow is very heavy. There again, the performance was the same between the Nixit and the Lumma; I had to change both every 4 hrs on my heaviest days.
But here is where I feel like the Lumma pulls ahead. I've seen reviews for the Lumma disc on YouTube (first on the Period Nirvana channel, then on others), and it seems that women have a tendency to snip the "string" for comfort reasons. I would probably shorten mine going forward, but I did not feel the need to get rid of it, and I'm happy I didn't. Because of the string, I've been able to change this disc while on the go, without any mess or problems―something I could not do with the Nixit. I've not tried to empty the disc in a public restroom, but I have changed this disc multiple times while on vacation at my in-laws and while at friends' homes. The experience was excellent.
How I change this disc on the go:
(1) I used the string to pull it out partially
(2) I "auto-dump"
(3) I run my fingers along the string to pull from a position that is closer to the rim of the disc.
(4) From there I easily pull the disc out to be emptied, cleaned with flushable wipes and reinserted.
*Note that getting close to the rim to pull out the disc will prevent it from swinging around like a bell and hitting any part of the toilet.
This is the only disc I feel confident changing on the go. It is now my primary disc. It is comfortable, efficient and leak free.

So I took the quiz and chose to purchase the Lumma disc (based on my results) and I have to say, I absolutely LOVE this product! Insertion was tricky at first (I am a plus sized woman and was inserting while sitting on the toilet) but once I found the right hand positioning, it couldn’t have been easier. I never noticed the string, it doesn’t hang out (of me) excessively so I completely forgot that it was there until I was ready to remove the disc. As for the removal process, I expected a huge mess on my hands and toilet seat but it was nearly mess free (only my pointer finger and thumb had any residue)! I don’t see myself needing to remove the disk in a public restroom but I would 100% feel comfortable doing so. The string really helped with removal and I of course referenced the demonstrations on Period Nirvanas Tik Tok which helped a lot! If you’re more of a visual learner like me, you really should check them out! I also want to mention that the disc was very comfortable for me (I did measure my cervix to determine the size I needed). I couldn’t feel it inside me and was completely unbothered by it! I had no leaks or auto dumping so overall, I had a very smooth first experience! I love my Lumma and now I’m unexpectedly excited for my next period!

It’s possible I found period nirvana! I didn’t think it was actually a thing. I have and love a saalt teen and saalt soft, but I wanted something to use for penetrative intercourse. I bought a nixit first, as recommended by the quiz, but it was too large. I found the nixit painful to insert. It also popped out after a few hours. The lumma short that I ordered is easy to insert and not painful at all. I trimmed the stem after a few days of thinking about it. I think I feel it even less than my cup. The only thing is the catch is huge, and kinda flattens inside me so the capacity is greatly reduced. I also think I should’ve gone with the medium. I will probably buy a medium and/or the Cora disc to see if that size fits better. There’s just a lot of space from my pubic bone to where the disc sits.

I can't describe how excited I just was to take out my disc for the first time and see that IT WORKED!!! I want to share my entire experience so sorry if this is long! For the last several years, I've been on (and off) this journey of trying to find the right reusable period product(s) for me. Probably 5 or 6 years ago, I briefly tried out the diva cup but it didn't work out for me so I went on to period panties and they worked great for a while because I was on birth control and weirdly enough, most of the time the blood would kind of stay in my body until I used the bathroom. I'm now off of birth control and it seems like my body isn't as kind to me in that way- and now I'm in a career where I can't just go to the bathroom whenever I want so I decided to try to find a new reusable period product. I tried the diva cup again and I watched about a million videos about cups but damn they can be difficult to figure out. I decided to just give another cup a try.Thank you, Kim for all of the great videos that lead me here!! I then took a quiz and it suggested the saalt cup, which I really want to like but still didn't work for me. I think my issue is either the suction or that my uterus is tilted because it always seemed like the cup would go beside my cervix rather than under it and I was always having leaking. I even reached out to saalt's support to troubleshoot and I still couldn't get it right after several periods. Meanwhile, I continued watching more of Kim's amazing videos and found that she realized that discs worked really well for her, which made me decide to just try a disc rather than continuing to be frustrated with the cup. Well I've just learned that the disc works best for me too!! To make sure it's in right, I actually insert one finger in to locate my cervix and then fold and hold the Lumma disc with my other hand and insert it under that other finger to ensure that my cervix is inside the disc and then pull my finger out and push the rim up above my pubic bone. This worked perfectly and was so easy!! At the end of the day, I slowly pulled on the stem until the disc came out a little and there was blood!! It poured into the toilet and because Kim warned in her videos about the mess, I was able to be careful and it wasn't even messy for me! I rinsed it off and reinserted it before running straight to my computer to submit this review-after washing my hands of course. Thank you so much, Kim for dedicating yourself to helping people with periods have an easier time and for giving us great resources such as Period Nirvana and Period.shop!!! To everyone reading this review, I recommend that you don't give up on finding the right product for you and know that it might take some time, practice, and research but it's totally worth it. Definitely watch some of Kim's informational videos through Period Nirvana or on YouTube. They're extremely helpful and she seems so great! Good luck on your journey!

I have a very high cervix and heavy flow. Long cups on the market do work for me but getting them out is a still a pain. I kept seeing people with high cervixes saying they loved lumma discs so I decided to try even though it didn’t make sense to me how that could possibly be easier. I totally get it now. Insertions and removal are way easier than I imagined. Even though I can feel the stem similar to a tampon string, having it for removal makes it so much easier with my cervix height. I didn’t test it on my heaviest days so can’t speak to the messiness factor just yet. Overall I’m very pleased. It does have a tacky texture to it that I wasn’t expecting but not a big deal for me.

After watching everything Kim has on discs and cups, I decided to take the quiz and the plunge. My first attempt with the disc was amazingly simple! I'm loving this! I've still got some user errors to work on, but leaks are not one of them. If you are still not sure about a disc, do it!
Rebecca L.
I was looking for a more sustainable options. I had been looking at discs and cups and felt that that discs were going to be the best option for me. I purchased two brands for trial and error. This is a good disc but not my favorite. I did not like the stem hangs out of the vagina. I immediately trimmed it and then decided to cut it off completely. Removal may be easier with the stem, but as a first time disc user, I didn't think it was difficult. The color is fun. No leaks. Overall, it still does the job.
Carmen N.
Have only worn it once (for one cycle I mean) and it has been pretty comfortable and with zero leaks! I'm still trying to get used to inserting it, but I've had less problems with it than I did with the previous two discs I've tried. The material is a bit different from what I expected, but it was firm enough to insert and soft enough to not feel any pressure even when struggling to get it in place (I suspect I have short fingers since I'm always struggling with disc insertion and cup removal haha).
Elaine L.
I really liked this disc. I got the Lumma MThis is the first disc I tried, but my success didn't come easy. First, the size of this disc is a really good fit for me since it didn't try to pop out nor did it seem too small to cause any leaks. The first cycle I tried this, it just didn't really work out because it was so firm. It made it really difficult for me to pee which I have never experienced with other cups (Saalt regular firmness and Saalt teen). However, the firmness of the disc significantly changed after boiling it and leaving it in a mug with boiled water. It became much softer and completely changed my experience during my 2nd cycle. It was significantly more comfortable and I didn't feel it anymore. This disc is fantastic. I don't usually use the string to remove it because I'm terrified of the string snapping back and hitting me, and I've heard of others breaking off the string from tugging too hard. It is a little difficult to remove since the rim is so thick, but you get the hang of it quickly in finding a way to maneuver it out.

I have tried cups in the past and and they just never worked correctly with me. First time I tried Lumma insertion was so easy I was already sold. It has officially been 1 year while using my Lumma Large Disc and it completely changed my periods for the better.....I forget I'm even on my period half the time because you really do forget it's there. Removal was a little tricky and there was a learning curve but nothing too bad. It does autodump for me but only on my heaviest days. I'm not dreading having my period while going away on trips, doing daily activities, out and about, work, exercise and that is invaluable to me. Have not experienced changing my disc out in public bc I don't need to remove it until the end of the day until I'm home. I would say if you are just getting into menstrual discs....Lumma is a great starting point.
L C.
Easy to put in, didnt leak at all. Just worked super comfortably.
Kimberly
I have a really low cervix and I was nervous to continue using a cup because of the suction. The cups were always really irritating, noticeable and protruding from my vagina. I watched a review for the flex disc and immediately looked for a reusable option. I watched Kim’s video comparing discs and knew I had to give them a try. I’m on day 2 using the Small (30yo; 1 VBAC) and I’m absolutely in love. It’s not too big or too small, fits just right and I literally can’t feel it. I left the stem on and surprisingly it hasn’t bothered me yet! Removal is definitely messy, but the stem is helpful. Still trying to perfect that step lol. If you have a low cervix and cups are painful, give the Small a try.
Christy W.
I've used a cup for years and years and I loved it. In the last couple of years it has started to get a little uncomfortable though. I saw Kim's review of the Lumma disk on Youtube and it called to me. I got my disk on day 2 of this cycle. I was so excited that I boiled it immediately and tried it out. I have to say this works so well. Kim's instruction in her video really helped me understand how to insert it. I will never go back. This disk is so comfortable and easy to use.
Beautiful F.
I’ve tried several cups and they were all “almost great” reason being that I have a super low cervix and short vaginal canal. I decided to give discs a try and huzzah! Period nirvanaanyway my tip to you is to be comfortable with your body and get to know it as well as possible
Kristin R.
Lumma discs are so easy to insert and remove, and comfortable. There was virtually no learning curve for me. Highly recommend!
